💛💚 A timely reminder from a true champion in Lauren Jackson AO OLY 💚💛🏀🏀
* I reached out to LJ this morning to make sure that she was fine with me writing about her like this and she was.
Goodbye.
Adios.
Arrivederci.
Au Revoir.
Auf Wiedersehen.
Sayōnara.
⚠️ If you are an employer, PLEASE “let your employee ‘go’” with a LUNCH and not a LETTER…..
👉 Let them say goodbye to their workmates & their work.
👩🏼⚕️ When I was “on the tools” as an Occupational Physican, I performed over 6,500 Independent Medical Examinations. Usually for a workplace, insurance company, lawyer.
😕 By the time the patient was referred to me for their “one off, end of claim” specialist injury assessment, their employment had usually ended (because they couldn’t work anymore)…
…and they’d fallen in a heap 😭
💻 I’ve just completed a review:
❌ Less than 100 of those people (only 92 out of 6,500) had some type of ongoing relationship – at least ‘some contact’ – with their employer after their injury. On review, ALL of those (92) people were feeling calm & complete about the “way things ended”, even though it wasn’t ideal for them.
Not so for the other 6,400!
🤬 Angry, irate, frustrated, hopeless, lost…..”I can’t believe after all those years of work, they never called me after my injury…not once….I can’t believe it…don’t they care about me..?“
♥️ Saying goodbye & letting go often work hand in hand with one another. This does not necessarily mean you are letting go of all things you have learned in your journey. It can often mean being able to let go of any pain, anger, or other negative feeling connected to saying goodbye.
✨ Death of a loved one.
✨ Death of a child.
✨ Divorce.
✨ Finishing up at work (whether your choice or not).
✨ Ending a sporting career (whether your choice or not; maybe through injury)
💚💛 Last week, Lauren Jackson AO OLY announced her retirement. She states very clearly that, on this occasion, she finally got to say goodbye – making a point that she didn’t get to do that last time (plagued with injury and pain). It was so important to her that it formed the crux of her announcement last week.
❤️🩹 A champion of the world – both on and off the court. The greatest of all time. A well adjusted, gorgeous working mother of 2 boys who has made possibly the most incredible sporting comeback ever seen. And she felt that she didn’t ever get to say goodbye to her job. And it bothered her. Just like it bothers everyone else. And now she has. And she’s at peace.
♥️ It’s so important.
🌈 If you’re ending things with an employee, PLEASE let them go with a LUNCH (or at least a proper goodbye!)…..and not an emailed LETTER to end things.
It sucks for them. And avoidable. Do the right thing and take care of your People – those Resources that are Humans. #HR
